B'way show hits road, jumps on Internet superhighway
Pundits might think Broadway tuner “The Wedding Singer” won’t score at the Tonys, but that hasn’t stopped producers from believing it’ll score on the road.
Theatrical booking org the Road Company — which handles the tours of “Wicked” and “The Color Purple,” among other shows — will handle the “Singer” tour, which is set to kickoff in Minneapolis in September 2007.
Speaking of pushing the show into the national consciousness, “Singer” will become the first Rialto tuner to participate in Apple’s iTunes Discovery Download, allowing users to download the song “It’s Your Wedding Day” free June 6-13.
Meanwhile, “The Today Show” is using that song as its theme for a five-month series of segments about weddings.
