‘Producers’ Vegas bound

Tuner eyeing late summer preem

“The Producers” will be the next Broadway hit to get dolled up for the Vegas Strip.

The Tony-winning tuner is eyeing a late summer opening at Paris Las Vegas, where the Queen musical “We Will Rock You” played for a little more than a year.

As with “Phantom of the Opera,” the production will be trimmed to a running time of 90 minutes with no intermission. Susan Stroman will reprise her roles as director and choreographer while Mel Brooks will also be involved in the creative process.

Tuner is the latest in a string setting up shop at Vegas casino-hotels.

But unlike “Avenue Q” and “Spamalot,” “The Producers” has already significantly bolstered its coffers on the road. About to finish its fifth year on Broadway, tuner began its road run in October 2002 and played for almost a year in Los Angeles beginning in May 2003.

There are productions in London, where it will enter its third year come November, and Sydney, where it will close in October. It is also playing in Tel Aviv and Copenhagen.

Paris Las Vegas’ theater has been dark except for concerts and one-nighters; “Rent,” for example, did a four-night stand two weeks ago.

“We Will Rock You” played 520 performances in the 1,477-seat venue between September 2004 and Nov. 27.
