B'way show shutters on May 20

Call the celebration off: “Festen” shutters May 20.

Show, based on the 1998 Danish movie “The Celebration,” was a hit in the U.K. But the Broadway production, which opened April 9 with an American cast including Ali MacGraw, received tepid reviews and never took off at the B.O. For the week ending May 14, the show grossed a paltry $165,745.

Helmed by Rufus Norris, who also directed the U.K. incarnation, the show played 20 previews and 49 perfs on Broadway.
