Gotham will hear the sounds of “LoveMusik” in the spring as a starry preem of the Kurt Weill tuner caps off Manhattan Theater Club’s Broadway season.
Michael Cerveris (“Sweeney Todd”) and Donna Murphy (“Wonderful Town”) are set to topline the Harold Prince-helmed production, which begins previews April 12 at the Biltmore for a May 3 opening.
Musical folds the songs of Weill, the German legit composer who often collaborated with Bertolt Brecht, into the biographical story of Weill and his wife, singer Lotte Lenya. Alfred Uhry (“Driving Miss Daisy”) wrote the book.
Cerveris and Murphy will play the tuner’s central couple. Cast also will include John Scherer and, as Brecht, David Pittu.
When Prince was talking up “LoveMusik” last season, he had imagined an out-of-town tryout for the show before it hit New York. Although that plan has been scuttled, it seems safe to assume producers of the midsize musical would eye a commercial transfer if all goes well at nonprofit MTC.
Prince previously worked with Uhry on “Parade,” for which Uhry won a Tony for book writing.
