Joe Mantello (“Wicked”) will helm the U.S. preem of David Harrower’s “Blackbird,” the buzzed-about Brit play set to bow Off Broadway at Manhattan Theater Club in March.
Mantello directed this season’s two mega-hit plays, “The Odd Couple” and “Three Days of Rain,” and won back-to-back directing Tonys for “Assassins” in 2004 and “Glengarry Glen Ross” in 2005.
“Blackbird” follows an office worker in his 50s who is visited by a former lover from 15 years earlier who was 12 at the time of their relationship. London production, which played a limited run February through May, was a transfer from the Edinburgh Fringe Fest.
No casting for the MTC incarnation has been announced.
