Lloyd Webber man takes top role on Dutch Stage

New CEO Taylor's focus on U.S. market

AMSTERDAM — Dutch media entrepreneur Joop van den Ende’s live entertainment group Stage Entertainment has appointed Bill Taylor, former CEO of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group, as CEO of Stage Entertainment U.K., with oversight of the U.S. market.

Taylor, who stepped down from RUG in December, takes up his new post March 15. He will report to Stage Entertainment’s board.

Stage Entertainment, whose business has expanded rapidly across Europe over the past seven years, already has had a presence in the U.K. and the U.S., but wants a more solid commitment to its Anglo-American interests.

Bill Taylor has an amazing track record and has been a key player in the West End theater industry, especially in musicals,” said Van den Ende, who is chair of Stage Entertainment’s board. “He has proven that he can open markets and that he can increase the profile of the business, and clearly he can help us make the next step in really establishing ourselves in the UK market.”

Taylor said the company will remain firmly rooted in live entertainment. He also will be on the lookout for acquisitions or joint ventures.

Under Taylor, RUG rolled out 70 productions worldwide and made the film version of “The Phantom of the Opera,” and other productions for TV and DVD/Video.

Stage Entertainment’s U.S. presence has been on a project-by-project basis, but he added, “Now we want a permanent presence in the U.S.”

The company recently refurbished a five-stage theatrical complex in Manhattan — first U.S. property fully owned by Stage Entertainment.
