Composer William Finn gets a revue of his own with the preem of “Make Me a Song,” bowing at Hartford’s TheaterWorks in August. Tunes from Finn’s Gotham shows as well as new material by him will be featured.
It’s not Finn’s first songfest. In 2001, “Infinite Joy,” a tribute to Finn featuring the composer, was presented as a special engagement at Joe’s Pub in New York. And 2003 saw the preem of “Elegies” at Lincoln Center’s Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater; that song cycle celebrates the lives of people the composer knew, loved and was influenced by who had died.
Finn’s works include “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” (whose national tour kicks off in August), “Falsettos” and “A New Brain.”
Rob Ruggiero will helm the new work, which will run Aug. 11-Sept. 24.
Finn is curating a summer of premieres by new composers at Barrington Stage (where “Spelling Bee” had its premiere) in the Massachusetts Berkshires.
