The Rialto better look out for that Grinch.
“Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” ($931,347) continued its climb up the top 10, landing in the No. 4 slot behind top-three stalwarts “Wicked” ($1,386,066), “Jersey Boys” ($1,169,548) and “The Lion King” ($1,025,444).
Of course, “Grinch” has something of an advantage over the other Broadway offerings in that the family-friendly production performs 12 times per week — meaning its sales this week rep audiences at about two-thirds capacity.
In general, total receipts were down across the Rialto, with tourists holding off until the more busily traveled Thanksgiving week.
But four newer offerings beat the downward trend. “A Chorus Line” ($848,774), “Les Miserables” ($710,894), “Grey Gardens” ($509,924) and “The Little Dog Laughed” ($191,181) all managed to build some steam.
“The Vertical Hour” played its first full eight-perf week and had $581,687 to show for it. The Julianne Moore/Bill Nighy starrer played to houses reported at 88% of capacity.
“Mary Poppins” ($734,275) saw a hefty dip of more than $150,000, thanks in part to a heavily comped opening week, although Disney touted strong sales for the post-opening weekend.
“Chicago” ($459,791) also fell off by more than $100,000 — but that tally doesn’t include the $1.25 million the revival raised for the charity Safe Horizon with ticket sales to its 10th-anni perf Nov. 14.
Most other shows on the boards saw dips of varying size, but they can expect to give thanks next weekend for holiday crowds.
Bidding adieu to the Great White Way was “The Times They Are A-Changin'” ($319,294), which shuttered Nov. 19. The last chance to catch the show wasn’t enough to get much of a rise from the B.O.: The week’s total was just $216 more than the prior sesh.
