Duo set for McGuinness drama

Atkins, Staunton join 'Gypsy Riding'

Eileen Atkins and Imelda Staunton will star in “There Came a Gypsy Riding,” the new play by Frank McGuinness (“Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me”) bowing at the Almeida in London in January.

Play follows the revelation of a family secret at the birthday party held for a dead son. Staunton plays the formidable mother and Atkins an eccentric, party-crashing cousin.

Also on the Almeida’s slate is the latest from Charlotte Jones (“Humble Boy”), “The Lightning Play.” Set at a North London Halloween party, the show begins its run in November.
