Another spring luncheon to attend, another beloved theater figure to honor.
The annual benefit for the playwright development org New Dramatists will honor Broadway fave Chita Rivera. Thesp, star of “West Side Story,” “Bye Bye Birdie” and the original production of “Chicago,” most recently toplined a musical-memoir that closed on Broadway after disappointing sales.
William Morris agent Samuel “Biff” Liff chairs the event, alongside a clutch of power players serving as honorary chairs: the Shuberts’ Gerald Schoenfeld and Philip J. Smith; Disney’s Thomas Schumacher; CAA’s George Lane; and Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner.
Lunchtime ceremony is set for May 18.
