Jill Clayburgh must really like legit.
Thesp, who returned to Broadway for the first time in 20 years last fall in “A Naked Girl on the Appian Way,” then went on to co-star in this spring’s “Barefoot in the Park,” will return to the boards a third time this season. She’ll topline Playwrights Horizon’s Off Broadway production of the new play “The Busy World Is Hushed.”
Clayburgh is a last-minute replacement for Christine Lahti, who bowed out of rehearsals citing “family matters.”
Clayburgh had participated in an early reading of “Busy World,” but had been unavailable for the Playwrights production due to the open-ended run of “Barefoot.” The recently announced closing of “Barefoot” on May 21 freed her to step into “Busy World.”
Thesp plays a minister whose relationship with her estranged son (Luke Macfarlane) is changed after she hires a writer (Hamish Linklater) to assist her. Mark Brokaw directs.
Originally set to begin performances May 27, the show, the last offering in the 2005-06 season at Playwrights, will postpone its first preview to June 2 and opening night to June 25. It runs through July 9.
