All hail the ‘Queen’

Block scores lead in new tuner

“The Pirate Queen” has found its queen.

Stephanie J. Block, who played Liza Minnelli in “The Boy From Oz,” takes the title role in the latest tuner from Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg, the creative team behind “Les Miserables” and “Miss Saigon.” Story follows the true tale of Grace O’Malley, the 16th-century Irish pirate chieftain.

Block will be joined by Jeff McCarthy (“Urinetown”), Linda Balgord (“La Cage aux Folles”) and Hadley Fraser. Further casting for the company of 40 has yet to be announced.
