‘Starry’ night at Old Globe

Broderick's latest takes test in San Diego

Kenneth Lonergan’s “The Starry Messenger,” starring Matthew Broderick, will make its Broadway tryout run at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego beginning Jan. 13.

“Messenger,” a play about a science teacher and his family written by the screenwriter behind “You Can Count on Me,” is one of three world premieres on the Old Globe schedule.

“Pig Farm,” from “Urinetown” librettist and lyricist Greg Kotis, runs Sept. 23-Oct. 29, and “The Four of Us,” by “Bach at Leipzig” playwright Itmar Moses, plays Feb. 3-March 11.

“Pig Farm” is produced in collaboration with Gotham’s Roundabout Theater Company.

Also on the Old Globe’s slate for its two stages are the well-traveled “George Gershwin Alone” (Sept. 9-Oct. 22), which is slated for the Geffen Playhouse in June 2007; Amy Freed’s “Restoration Comedy” (March 17-April 22); August Wilson’s “Two Trains Running” (May 5-June 10, 2007); and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” (May 19, 2007-June 24, 2007).

“The Starry Messenger” is penciled in for an April opening on Broadway.
