TORONTO — It may not have wowed the critics, but “The Lord of the Rings” cleaned up Tuesday when nominations were announced in Toronto for the 27th Dora Mavor Moore Awards, Canada’s leading legit honors.
Cited in every major category in which it was eligible, the hobbit tuner snagged 15 noms, including new musical, production of a musical, direction of a musical and all major design areas.
Six performers were nominated: Brent Carver, Michael Therriault, Peter Howe, Rebecca Jackson Mendoza, Carly Street and Evan Buliung.
The troubled $24 million show has been undergoing repairs since it opened to largely unfavorable notices in March, and its original running time of 3 hours and 50 minutes has been cut by nearly 35 minutes.
The Doras will be presented June 27 at Toronto’s Winter Garden Theater.
