The Cirque du Soleil Beatles show has decided on a name and set June 30 for a gala premiere.
“The Beatles LOVE” starts performances June 2 at the Mirage in Las Vegas.
“LOVE” will be presented in a custom-built theater at the Mirage featuring in-the-round seating and high definition video projections with 100-foot digital, moving images. Show will also feature panoramic surround sound.
Using the master tapes at Abbey Road Studios, George Martin and his son Giles said they have created “a unique soundscape.” “I think we will achieve a real sense of drama with the music. The audience will feel as though they are actually in the theater with the band,” Giles Martin said.
Show will feature both complete songs and fragments. Apple plans to release a soundtrack album through EMI Music later this year (Daily Variety, April 13).
Dominic Champagne directed and wrote the original concept for the show, which producers describe as “capturing the essence of love that John, Paul, George and Ringo inspired” during their days as the world’s most famous rock band.
“When we embarked on this extraordinary adventure in 2002, we set out to create a timeless, three-dimensional evocation of the Beatles music,” Gilles Ste-Croix, show concept creator and director of creation, said in a statement.
International cast of 60 is involved in aerial performances, extreme sports and freestyle dance.
Tickets for shows through Sept. 30 went on sale Wednesday morning.
