‘Zozo’ nabs Nordic Council kudos

Pic has sold more than 280,000 tickets locally

STOCKHOLM — Swedish helmer Josef Fares’ drama “Zozo” has scooped this year’s Nordic Council Film Prize. The $60,000 kudo will be split between writer-director Fares, who gets $40,000, and producer Anna Anthony of Memfis Film.

Fares’ third feature, following “Jalla! Jalla!” and “Kops,” is a semi-autobiographical drama about an 11-year-old boy in 1980s war-torn Beirut who is separated from his family and decides to go to Sweden, which is to him an unknown country.

Pic, which has sold more than 280,000 tickets locally, has been licensed to some 20 countries by Trust Film Sales.

The award will be presented Nov. 1 at a ceremony in Copenhagen.
