Berlin-based X Filme has been added to the list of co-producers on Bille August’s South African tale, “Goodbye Bafana,” which began shooting in Cape Town last week.
Pic, which stars Joseph Fiennes, Dennis Haysbert and Diane Kruger, is based on James Gregory’s autobio about a white South African racist whose life was profoundly altered by the black prisoner he guarded for 20 years, Nelson Mandela.
Andro Steinborn of X Filme is co-producing with Jean-Luc van Damme of Belgium’s Banana Films, Ilann Girard of France’s Arsam and Stephan Margolis of the U.K.’s Future Film in association with Gherardo Pagliei of Italy’s Fonema and David Wicht of South Africa’s Film Afrika.
The German Federal Film Board is supporting “Goodbye Bafana,” which will be released in Germany by X Filme’s distrib division, X Verleih. Celluloid Dreams is handling world sales.
