Von Trier’s the ‘Boss’ at Montreal fest

Event will also feature 'Congorama,' 'Barley,' 'Volver'

Danish helmer Lars von Trier’s latest pic, “The Boss of It All,” will have its North American premiere at the 35th Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinema. Nouveau festival, the city’s smaller, edgier rival to the Montreal World Fest, runs Oct. 18-28.

“Boss” will world preem at the Copenhagen Film Festival in September.

In a stylistic about-face for von Trier, “Boss” is a comedy about a company owner who decides to sell up. The problem is that he’s invented a fictitious president for the firm, and the buyers want to negotiate with him.

Danish thesps Jens Albinus, Casper Christensen and Peter Gantzier star along with French actor-helmer (and von Trier regular) Jean-Marc Barr. Seville Pictures is distributing the film in Canada.

The fest previously announced three other pics: Quebec director Philippe Falardeau’s Cannes Directors Fortnight entry “Congorama,” which will be the opening-night pic; British helmer Ken Loach’s Palme d’Or winner “The Wind That Shakes the Barley”; and Pedro Almodovar’s Cannes player “Volver.”
