Nailing down a Berlinale section head in the middle of the festival is not an easy task, but when you do, it’s not at all hard to get them to tell you about their program.
Coming out of the first weekend, Panorama’s deputy head Margaret von Schiller had no problem reporting on films already emerging as festival favorites, particularly the surprises.
“People like ‘Heaven’s Doors’ a lot and it’s surprising because the directors are so young. The mother produced it and the father plays the principle role and the mother was in tears at the end of the film saying, ‘I never thought my sons would come up with something so mature.’ ”
Others that she pointed to as having touched a chord were “Family Law” and the short “Love This Time.”
