Urban Films welcomes ‘Lonely Bird’

Pic adapts 19th century epic poem 'Fierro'

MADRID — Sales agent Urban Films has taken worldwide rights outside Latin America to gaucho drama “Martin Fierro, el ave solitaria” (Martin Fierro, the Lonely Bird).

Helmed and written by Argentinian Gerardo Vallejo (“El rigor del destino”), pic adapts 19th century social epic poem “El Gaucho Martin Fierro,” written by Jose Hernandez and widely seen as a pinnacle of Argentine literature.

Story concerns a horse breaker (Juan Palomino) who confronts native Indians during Argentina’s desert conquest in 1850.

San Luis Cine, the film production and promotion arm of the San Luis regional government, has teamed with tyro producer Carlos Espejo on the pic, which is also backed by Argentina’s INCAA Film Institute.
