Spat over shrinking windows prompts move

ROME — A row over Italy’s shrinking window has prompted Universal Pictures Italia to postpone its “Miami Vice” homevid release.

The spat was sparked by previous plans for “Vice” to be available to Italos on DVD in December, just two months after pic’s Oct. 6 release in local movie theaters, where it is currently playing.

Exhibbers org. ANEC and multiplex org. ANEM had both protested vigorously on Thursday (Nov. 2). Several chains, including top plex player Warner Village Cinemas, had retaliated by pulling “Vice” from their screens.

A Universal Pictures Italia rep. said Friday (Nov. 3) it has now decided to push “Vice” DVD release to January.

New outing date, which makes for a three-month window, is expected to placate the flareup.
