Eight student filmmakers at UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television have been chosen to screen their work at the “Director’s Spotlight” event, held at the Directors Guild of America Theatre June 13.
The selected films are “Lights Out,” by Erik Fefferman; “Whole,” by Matthew Flynn; “Lab Rats,” by Naomi Watts; “Chinese Dumplings,” by Michelle Hung; “In Memoriam” by John Morgan; “La Primavera,” by Ruben Obregon; “Dash,” by Jody Rice; and “Divide,” by Karen Smalley.
Films were chosen by a panel of industry professionals which included screenwriters Brian Price, Chad Gervich, Anna Sandor, Nicholas Griffin; directors Jeff Werner, Jon Reiss, Salvador Litvak; and talent agents Greg Pedicin and Jewerl Ross.
Barbara Boyle, chair of the UCLA Department of Film, Television and Digital Media will host the event.
Alumni filmmakers featured in past “Director’s Spotlight” events include Alexander Payne (“Sideways”), Todd Holland (“Malcolm in the Middle”), Shane Acker (“9”), and Gil Kenan (“Monster House”).
