U.K. Film Council backs ‘Father’

Premiere Fund awards $934,000 to Tucker pic

LONDON — The U.K. Film Council’s Premiere Fund has awarded £500,000 ($934,000) to co-finance Anand Tucker’s “And When Did You Last See Your Father?,” which started shooting this month.

Pic, which stars Jim Broadbent and Colin Firth, is based on the poet Blake Morrison’s book about his relationship with his dad. It’s produced by Stephen Woolley and Liz Karlsen’s Number 9 Films, with backing from FilmFour and EM Media.

Sony Pictures Classics has pre-bought North American rights, with Buena Vista Intl (UK) distributing in Blighty.

The project is one of the first to come through the development slate franchises awarded two years ago by the U.K. Film Council.
