Czech fest announces first competish title
LONDON — Czech fest Karlovy Vary has announced its first competition title: Han Hrebejk’s “Kraska v nesnazich” (Beauty in Trouble) will be one of 18 titles in the official selection competing for the Crystal Globe.
It’s the third time that Hrebejk is competing in the fest.
Karlovy Vary also announced that Czech helmer Jan Nemec, 70, will be awarded the Crystal Globe for artistic contribution to world cinema. Nemec was labeled the enfant terrible of the Czech new wave in the 1960s.
After capturing the invasion of Prague by the Soviet Union and its Warsaw Pact allies in August 1968 in his film “Oratorio for Prague,” he was forced to leave the country and has spent the following years in exile in Germany, the U.K. and the U.S.
