Owens to fill exec's marketing post

Making a new push overseas, ThinkFilm has upped marketing VP David Fenkel to veep, international.

Job had previously been handled part-time by L.A.-based Mark Horowitz, who launched the division but was working as a consultant for the company.

ThinkFilm has hired Palm Pictures praiser Erin Owens to fill Fenkel’s marketing post.

Fenkel aims to conduct more foreign pre-sales in his new role. “Our goal will be to make a $2 million bet and take it to Cannes and see if we can sell it,” he said.

Fenkel also says that coin from those sales will in turn allow the company to invest in bigger-budget projects and get involved earlier in the process of developing projects.

A number of indie companies have been able to develop and produce bigger movies because of coin from foreign pre-sales.

Company will aim for foreign pre-sales for several projects at AFM next month, including the documentary “Zoo,” described by the company as a look at “a seemingly normal Seattle family man who met his untimely end while having sexual intercourse with a horse.”

Fenkel will report to company’s senior veep Randy Manis and prexy-CEO Jeff Sackman.
