Sydney film fest taps Stewart a.d.

The Sydney Film Festival has appointed Clare Stewart, chief curator for the Australian Center for the Moving Image in Melbourne, as artistic director.

She replaces ex-journalist Lynden Barber who is stepping down after two years. Stewart takes up the post July 27.

Org has gone through upheavals in the last few years with newcomers to the posts of chairman and vice chair, and three CEOs in three years.

Fest posted a A$242,000 ($175,000) deficit in 2005 and auds for the 2006 event, which shuttered June 25, were down 7%.
