Robinson to receive 2006 Visionary Award

Barbara Robinson, Sony Pictures’ senior production exec in Asia, will receive the 2006 Visionary Award at the CineAsia exhib convention in Beijing, running Dec. 5-7.

Event also will honor UIP’s senior Asian VP Kurt Rieder as distributor of the year and Meileen Choo, head of Singapore-based Cathay Cinemas, as exhibitor of the year.

Motion Picture Assn. topper Dan Glickman will return to China, both as a panelist in a discussion on piracy and as keynote speaker on opening night.

Last year, speaking in the Great Hall of the People, Glickman urged China to crack down on piracy and open up its industry to foreign investment and participation.

Confab will include panel discussions on cinema design and in-theater marketing. Organized by VNU Expositions, event is expanding its focus beyond theatrical exhibition and will hold seminars on production.

Hong Kong-based Robinson was deeply involved in the production and success of “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and more recently was involved with Chinese-language productions “Kekexili” and “20:30:40.”
