Steamy Colombian assassin thriller “Rosario Tijeras” has been licensed to Pretty Pictures in France by Madrid-based producer Marina Fuentes.
“Rosario Tijeras” will go out on 80-plus prints in France, Fuentes said. Indie distrib Manga Films bows pic May 26 in Spain.
Fuentes kicked off pic’s sales campaign at the Berlin fest’s European Film Market in February. Pic also has sold to Casablanca in Brazil and to Prooptiki in Greece.
A blockbuster in Colombia last year with 1.2 million ticket sales, “Rosario” bowed March 31 in Mexico. where it is nearing 150,000 admissions, an excellent result for a Latin American pic.
Set in Medellin in 1989 at the height of the drug cartels’ power, “Rosario” toplines Colombian actress Flora Martinez as a traumatized prostitute-cum-teen killer who enthralls two upper-class boys.
“Rosario” is produced by Matthias Ehrenberg’s Rio Negro and United Angels, both based in Mexico; Colombia’s Dulce Compania; and Spain’s Maestranza Films.
