Riva hangs MPC shingle

Co-produces Taratuto's 'Nadie'

MADRID — Juan Riva de Aldama, the former director general of Antena 3 and Telefonica Media’s New Media division, has launched production/distribution shingle, MPC.

The Madrid-based company initiates film production taking 50% on a standout Argentine project, Juan Taratuto’s sophomore pic, the neurotic romantic comedy “Nadie dice que es facil,” Taratuto’s follow-up to “Nos sos vos, soy yo,” a hit in Argentina and Spain.

Rolling Monday, “Nadie” toplines Diego Peretti, who also starred in “It’s Not You.” Pic is produced in Argentina by Hernan Musaluppi’s Rizoma Films, Zarlek Producciones, Films Suez and the Primer Plano Film Group.

“Nadie” underscores MPC’s international thrust in film, but MPC isn’t just a film producer, Riva told Daily Variety.

MPC is structured around three divisions — film, TV and mobile TV — and will work off the experience and contacts of Riva and his executive team in the corporate and new media worlds in Spain and beyond.

Company is in talks to create made-for mobile TV content, said Riva, who produced flamenco star biopic “Camaron.”

“We’re also looking to buy economically-priced content from abroad for new Spanish TV operators,” he added.

Alfonso Castillo, founder of film promotion agency Toma Previa, will head up MPC’s film division; Dennis Nieman, former director of Cellus Espana, tops mobile TV; Carlota Nelson, a Telecinco scriptwriter, directs its TV activities.
