MADRID — Voz Audiovisual, the TV arm of Voz de Galicia, one of Spain’s biggest regional press groups, has entered film production with a three-pic slate: Carmen Maura starrer “El menor de los males,” as well as “De bares” and “Catalina,” the first and second features by director Mario Iglesias.
Helmed by emerging Spanish auteur Antonio Hernandez (“The City Without Limits,” “Oculto”), Galicia-set thriller “Menor” has a high-ranking politico (Roberto Alvarez), with underage bimbo (Veronica Echegui) in tow, meeting his reproving sister (Maura) at the family home.
World preeming at October’s Valladolid Film Festival, “De bares” is a multipart pic about clients of a bar; drama “Catalina,” shooting in early September, turns on a femme painter.
Iglesias short “Madres” won an audience award at March’s Malaga Film Festival.
“We’re exploring two production lines: young or new directors and commercial films with international prospects, maybe in English,” said Voz Audiovisual exec producer David Martinez.
Voz Audiovisual is casting its first international, English-language pic.
Standout productions include hit comedy skein “Mareas vivas” and “As Leis de Celavella,” an upscale murder mystery series.
Voz de Galicia is also prepping an upscale regional digital terrestrial TV news channel, VTV9.
