Co. picks up world rights to 'Freshman Orientation'

Regent Releasing has acquired worldwide rights to “Freshman Orientation” and plans to release the college comedy in the spring.

Regent Worldwide Sales is handling international sales at the American Film Market.

“Orientations,” produced by Element Films, stars Sam Huntington (“Superman Returns”), Marla Sokoloff, Bryce Johnson, Heather Matarazzo, John Goodman and Rachel Dratch. Former “Saturday Night Live” producer Ryan Shiraki is the director.

Story centers on a typical Midwestern 18-year-old freshman at a large state university eager to begin his wild college party life, who discovers that school falls short of his fantasy. Determined to win over a beautiful sorority girl, he decides to pose as gay in order to insinuate himself in her life. leading to a morass of complications.

“Freshman Orientation” made its debut in competition at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004. Shiraki also wrote the script for “The Shallow End” and “Poster Boy.”
