Maltin inks deal to host series

Leonard Maltin, whose annually updated “Movie Guide” is one of the most widely used in the industry, has signed with ReelzChannel to host a series called “The Secret’s Out.”

The network kicks off Sept. 27 with a schedule of news and information programming dedicated to movies. The goal of ReelzChannel is to produce shows that deal with movies not only in theaters and on DVD, but on pay TV, video on demand, basic cable and broadcast TV.

Maltin’s show will focus on “movie gems that have been unjustly overlooked,” said Ian Valentine, senior VP of programming for ReelzChannel.

The movie guide written and compiled by Maltin and eight editors first appeared in 1969; the annual updates began in October 1987. Maltin has appeared regularly on “Entertainment Tonight” and on the Starz pay-TV network, and has a syndicated radio program.
