Producers Thomas Hopkins and Tony Dunoyer have teamed to launch Griot Pictures Entertainment, a Gotham-based production banner.
Griot has two pics on its slate that are in pre-production, including period piece “Chevalier” and horror pic “Minion.”
Set in 18th-century France, “Chevalier” centers on Chevalier de Saint George, a fencing and musical star who was one of the first established classical musicians of African descent in Europe.
Paris Qualles (“The Inkwell”) is penning the pic.
Meanwhile, Hopkins is co-writing the screenplay for “Minion,” based on scribe L.A. Banks’ books “Minion” and “The Awakening.”
Stories follow the adventures of Damali Richards, spoken-word artist by day, vampire huntress by night.
Griot is developing another project, “The Peculiar Patriot,” which mixes documentary and comedic elements.
Unit’s pic “Premium,” starring Zoe Saldana and co-produced with Double 7 Film and Palm-Star, recently screened at the Miami Film Festival.
