Joe Pichirallo has left his post as Focus Features exec veep to become the head of film production and development for Overbrook Entertainment.
Pichirallo was tapped by Overbrook partners Will Smith and James Lassiter to manage their existing arsenal of 20-plus development projects, and broaden the pic output at their Columbia-based company. Recent Overbrook productions include “Hitch” and “I, Robot.”
At Focus, Pichirallo most recently steered the Sanaa Hamri-directed “Something New” and the upcoming Allen Coulter-directed “Hollywoodland,” an examination of the death of George “Superman” Reeves that stars Adrien Brody, Ben Affleck and Diane Lane. Pichirallo is an exec producer on both films.
Pichirallo previously was senior veep at Fox Searchlight. He got his start covering national security issues for the Washington Post. After taking a sabbatical to attend AFI, he got a job as exec at HBO Pictures.
“Joe has a good eye for material, a proven track record in putting together films and strong ties with the new breed of writers, directors and actors as well as with established talent,” Lassiter said. ‘
Said Pichirallo: “I was ready to help lead a production company and the opportunity to work with Will and James was irresistible.”
