Black Eyed Peas nab hip-hop award

See Winners

Panic! at the Disco, James Blunt and Kelly Clarkson were the big winners at the 23rd annual MTV Video Music Awards, held Thursday night at Gotham’s Radio City Music Hall.

Panic! took homevideo of the year for “I Write Sins Not Tragedies,” while Blunt drew male video and cinematography nods for “You’re Beautiful.” Clarkson (“Because of You”) beat out artists including Madonna and Christina Aguilera for female video kudos.

Black Eyed Peas nabbed the hip-hop prize (“My Humps”), while Beyonce featuring Slim Thug & Bun B drew the R&B nod for “Check on It.”

Pink’s “Stupid Girls” snagged pop video honors, and Chamillionaire picked up the rap video kudos for “Ridin’.”

Shakira and the Red Hot Chili Peppers led with seven nominations each but drew only one prize each. Shakira walked away with the choreography prize for “Hips Don’t Lie,” while the art direction nod went to the Peppers for “Dani California.”

Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” took home awards for video direction and cinematography.

Kudofest was hosted by Jack Black. Performers included Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, T.I., Panic! at the Disco, Ludacris and the Killers.
