Blanchett, Glass, Hudson to receive awards

The Palm Springs Film Festival will honor Cate Blanchett with its career achievement award and Philip Glass with the Frederick Loewe award for film composing at the fest’s gala Jan. 6.

Blanchett appeared in “Notes on a Scandal,” “Babel” and “The Good German” this year, while Glass composed the score for “Scandal.”

The fest, which runs Jan. 4-15, also announced that “Dreamgirls” star Jennifer Hudson will receive the breakthrough performance award, to be presented Jan. 13 at a fundraising event at the home of philanthropists Jim and Jackie Houston.
