Pair to produce ‘XXY’

Wanda Vision, Historias Cinematograficas team on Puenzo drama

Spain’s Wanda Vision and Argentina’s Historias Cinematograficas have teamed to produce hermaphrodite drama “XXY,” the feature film debut of Argentinian screenwriter Lucia Puenzo.

A seasoned writer of TV minis in Argentina, Puenzo co-wrote the screenplay for “The Whore and the Whale” with Spanish screenwriter Angeles Gonzalez Sinde and father Luis Puenzo, who owns Historias Cinematograficas with his children. She was one of the six directors chosen by the Cannes Film Festival to attend its 12th Residence session this February.

“XXY” is near to closing a co-production deal with France, Wanda topper Jose Maria Morales told Variety at Cannes.

In a separate deal, producer-distributor-sales agent Wanda has pre-sold Cuban auteur Fernando Perez’s “Madrigal” to Switzerland’s Trigon-Film, run by Walter Ruggle. Pre-sale kicks off pic’s sales campaign. A co-production between Wanda and Cuba’s ICAIC Film Institute, “Madrigal,” which recounts a 15-year romance, will be ready for delivery in August, in time for a fall fest berth.
