World Brief

UTV Motion Pictures’ “Rang de basanti” (Color It Orange) is India’s submission for consideration in the foreign-language Oscar category.

The Rakeysh Mehra-helmed pic revolves around a young British filmmaker who comes to India to make a film on the revolutionaries — Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru — who had left an everlasting impression on her grandfather.

The film follows the awakening of four collegians, inspired by the legendary freedom fighters, who grow from self-centered youths to caring about their country.

Pic stars producer-thesp Aamir Khan, whose “Lagaan” reached the final five in 2002.
