Spain’s growing, if select, ranks of young indie pic producers have a new member: Juan Morali, the former director of marketing and communications at Spanish distribution house On Pictures, owned by media conglom Zeta Group.
Having ankled On Pic last May, Morali has created a film production division at Dr. Troy, a Barcelona-based commercials house run by brother Santiago Morali.
Steering Dr. Troy’s into pic production, Morali is merely returning to his origins. Between 2001 and 2004, he served as head of development at Spanish production house Mediapro.
There he worked on the project analysis of Isabel Coixet’s “The Secret Life of Words” and the development of Miguel Albaladejo’s “My Quick Way Out,” which screened in the Berlin market.
“My aim is to make international films, which use co-production, are sometimes in English, have manageable budgets and tap Spain’s large talent in new screenwriters, directors and actors,” Morali said Monday.
