Ice Cube to star in Murphy-penned script

New Line has acquired a pitch for an untitled comic vehicle for Ice Cube.

He’ll play a social climber whose aspirations are threatened by a youth who shows up and calls him daddy.

Blumhouse’s Jason Blum and Cube Vision’s Matt Alvarez will produce. Richard Murphy, who hammered out the concept with Blumhouse exec veep Tracy Underwood, will pen the script. Latter will be exec producer. Cube and Cube Vision’s Dave Hebenstreit also will be involved in producer roles.

Cube is currently starring in “Are We Done Yet?,” sequel to “Are We There Yet?”

Blum has a first-look deal at Paramount, where he has projects that include “Five Men Who Broke My Heart” and “Rex Mex.”

Murphy recently set up his script “Superfan” at HBO.
