Special mentions given to 'Bothersome,' 'Rechercher '
U.S. helmer-scribe Julia Loktev’s “Day Night Day Night” has won the Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinema’s top Louve d’Or for feature.The 35th edition of the edgy fest doled out its prizes on Thursday, though the fest, which opened Oct. 18 with the local preem of Quebec helmer Philippe Falardeau’s “Congorama,” continues through Saturday night. “Day Night Day Night,” which has already played the Cannes and Toronto fests, recounts the harrowing story of a woman preparing to unleash a suicide bomb attack in New York City. The jury gave special mentions to Norwegian helmer Jiens Lien’s “The Bothersome Man” and Sophie Deraspe’s Canuck pic “Rechercher Victor Pellerin.” Acting nod went to Kate Dickie for her performance in the British-Danish co-production “Red Road.” The Radio-Canada People’s Choice Award was handed to Florian Henckel’s German pic “The Lives of Others,” a thriller about a policeman spying on a writer in the old East Germany. Quebec helmer Maxime Giroux’s “Les Jours” took the NFB short award.
