Robert Hudson and Bobby Houston’s “Mighty Times: The Children’s March,” 2004’s Oscar winning short docu, will unspool with Paola di Florio’s “Home of the Brave” Feb. 15 for the latest installment of the Contemporary Documentary Series.
Series is a joint effort from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Academy Foundation and the UCLA Film and Television Archive.
“Mighty Times: The Children’s March” explores 1963 Birmingham, Ala., when 5,000 black children participated in organized acts of civil disobedience and forced the white power structure to take notice.
Feature-length “Home of the Brave” delves into the murder of activist Viola Liuzzo, the only white women murdered in the Civil Rights Movement whose death is credited with giving President Lyndon Johnson leverage to pass the Voting Rights Act through Congress.
Pics screen 7:30 p.m. at the James Bridges Theater in Westwood.
