Sundance Institute has tapped Cara Mertes as the new director of its Documentary Film Program.
Mertes will oversee all aspects of the program, established in 2000 with grants totaling up to $1 million a year to support the endeavors of documakers.
Mertes is exec producer for PBS’ “P.O.V.” Since taking the reins in 2000, she has received multiple awards for the program, including five National News and Documentary Emmys and two Academy Award nominations.
This summer, Mertes will start organizing the documentary film labs for the 2007 festival. She replaces Diane Weyermann.
