Mediaplex, parent of distributor Showbox, is moving into production.
It has set up production/investment company Motion 101 with tech firm Innet, in which Mediaplex owns a 7.9% share.
Mediaplex prexy Woody Kim will head the new company, which aims to finance, produce and distribute four to five titles per year, providing content for Mediaplex’s theatrical and cable TV operations.
According to Kim, the firm will finance its pics by participating in film funds.
Innet acquired production shingle Cineline II, responsible for major hits “Friend” and “Marathon,” on Aug. 11.
Mediaplex is reaping the benefits of record-breaking monster pic “The Host,” expected to soon become the best-selling film in Korean history.
However, the company is trailing rival CJ Entertainment in netting high-profile releases for the remainder of 2006.
