Thesp to play track-and-field legend Owens
Anthony Mackie has been set to play Olympic track-and-field legend Jesse Owens in a biopic to shoot next summer. Mike Jefferies and Matt Barrelle are producing for Milkshake Films, the company behind the soccer trilogy “Goal!”Script by James L. White (“Ray”) follows Owens as he rose to international stardom at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, where Adolf Hitler watched him win four gold medals. Danny Stepper will co-produce the pic, earmarked for a summer 2008 release. Mackie had roles in “Half Nelson,” “Crossover” and “Haven” and next stars in the “We Are Marshall” for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. Endeavor and Inspire Entertainment rep Mackie.
