Latido racks up deals for Bauer’s Falklands drama

'Iluminados' pacts for Venezuela, Mexico pending

Argentine Tristan Bauer’s Falkland War drama, “Iluminados por el fuego” (Blessed By Fire), closed at Berlin with Victory for Benelux and California Filmes for Brazil.

Deals with Venezuela and Mexico are pending, said Massimo Saidel at sales consortium Latido.

A film about the devastating psychological effect of the war on Argentine conscripts sent to defend the Falkland Islands, “Blessed” took the special jury prize at San Sebastian and best foreign Spanish-language film at Spain’s Goya Awards last month.

Another Goya winner and Latido pic, Marcelo Pinyero’s “The Method” (aka. “The Gronholm Method”) has been licensed at Berlin to Chile and Brazil (Hugo Sorrentino’s Art Filmes).

At the EFM, Latido also sold a six-pic package to Greece’s Medial. The group sale was led by new Latido pickups “Carambola” and “Justine, A Woman For Sale.”

Deal plays off Medial’s handling two other Latido pics in Greece — “Machuca” and “Viva Cuba.”
