Korea Awards cater to ‘Host’

Zo, Jang take home acting honors

Bong Joon-ho’s creature movie “The Host” scooped six awards at the fifth Korea Film Awards: picture, director, cinematography, lighting, special effects and sound effects.

Held on Sunday night in Seoul, the ceremony also honored Zo In-sung (“A Dirty Carnival”) for actor, Jang Jin-young (“Between Love and Hate”) for actress, Lee Beom-soo (“The City of Violence”) for supporting actor, Choo Ja-hyun (“Bloody Tie”) for supporting actress and writer-director Son Jae-gon (“My Scary Girl”) for screenplay.

Sponsored by pubcaster MBC, the Korea Film Awards is among a crowd of film kudos that take place here.

The Blue Dragon Film Awards, to be held on Dec. 15, vie with the Grand Bell Awards, held in late spring, for the title of South Korea’s most prestigious film awards ceremony.

“The Host” will be released Stateside by Magnolia Pictures in early 2007.
