Izutsu crafts sequel to romantic drama

Pic was Japan's entry in the Academy Awards' foreign-language film race

TOKYO — Helmer Kazuyuki Izutsu has started work on “Pacchigi! 2,” the sequel to his 2004 hit romantic drama “Pacchigi!” (“We Shall Overcome Someday”).

Pic stars Shunya Isaka and Yuri Nakamura as a brother and sister from a Korean family living in Tokyo in 1974. Also starring is Hidetoshi Nishijima, who appears with Isaka in the NHK web’s hit drama “Kirari.”

Cinequanon is producing “Pacchigi! 2” and will distribute with A Line. Pic opens nationwide in May,

The first film, starring Erika Sawajiri and Shunya Shioya in a Romeo-and-Juliet-style drama set in Kyoto in 1968, won five Japan Academy Award prizes, including director.
