ROME — The Egyptian will host the third “Cinema Italian Style” event Oct. 3-8, Cinecitta Holding and the Italian Film Commission announced Monday.
Film series will showcase pics from the upcoming Venice Film Festival, including helmer Emanuele Crialese’s “Nuovomondo” (The Golden Door) and Gianni Amelio’s “La Stella che non c’e” (The Star That Isn’t There), plus “Notte prima degli esami” (Night Before Finals), the hit comedy from scriptwriter-turned-helmer Fausto Brizzi.
Brizzi’s film topped the local B.O. over the winter and won first film kudos at the David di Donatello awards in the spring.
Event’s Innovator Award will go to 20th Century Fox topper Jim Gianopulos; thesp Valeria Golino; Lazio Region prexy Piero Marrazzo; and a yet-to-be-announced American personality who has offered “distinguished support of Italian cinema,” Cinecitta said.
Dedicated to the 100th anniversary of helmer Roberto Rossellini’s birth, film series is backed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and American Cinematheque. Patrons are the Italo Culture Ministry and Culture Institute.
Honorary committee includes Harvey Weinstein, Michael Douglas, Sophia Loren, helmer Bernardo Bertolucci, producer Dino De Laurentiis, set designer Dante Ferretti and film editor Pietro Scalia.
