Imax has super plan

Co. to open theater for 'Superman'

TORONTO — Imax has inked a deal with Village Skycity Cinemas to open a venue in Auckland, New Zealand, in time for the day-and-date release of “Superman Returns: An Imax 3D Experience” on Wednesday.

Retrofit, part of a Village Skycity Cinema multiplex, will be the first Imax theater in New Zealand to unspool Imax’s digitally remastered Hollywood films.

Location reps an upgrade of an Imax theater that closed in early 2002.

“The Imax theater will improve bottom-line results for our business by drawing incremental attendance to our multiplex with A-list movies presented in a way that can’t be replicated anywhere else in New Zealand,” said Joseph Moodabe, CEO of Village Skycity Cinemas.
